Frequently asked questions

Do you sell rare “White” Golden Retrievers, "Platimum" Golden Retrievers or English Creams?

NO, we breed British style Golden Retrievers. They are not rare at all. They range in colour from a very light cream to a golden colour. Many are lighter than their American counterpart. Do not be misled by breeders selling "rare white" "rare platimum" or "English Creams" Golden Retrievers. They are simply the original Golden Retriever.

What is the adoption process?

After the initial contact either by telephone or email, we require that an adoption form be submitted. If initial contact is by email, the next step would be a phone conversation. As you are being very selective regarding a breeder, we are equally selective where our puppies are going so that is why we like to speak to everyone prior to confirming a puppy reservation. We are always available for our puppy families and provide a lifetime of support. Our waiting time for a puppy is approximately 12 months.

Do you do health clearances on your dogs?

All of our breeding dogs have passed health clearances for hips, elbows, heart and eyes. These are posted on each dog's web page. Since we import our dogs from around the world, their health clearances may come from their country of origin. In Canada, we no longer have a governing body that certifies health clearances for hips and elbows so we send our tests out to countries that do. In the USA, it is Orthopedic Foundation of Animals (OFA). In the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand, it is the British Veterinary Association (BVA). In Europe, it is the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI). Three radiologists inspect all x-rays and grade them. They are either graded "Excellent", "Good" etc., numerical ( 6/7) or alphabeticaly (A/A) depending on the country. All health clearances are listed on each dogs feature webpage.

Do you ship your puppies?

Yes, we ship our puppies within Canada and the USA. Shipping costs range from $390.00 to $680.00 (including airfare, taxes and a crate) depending on the location. Regalgoldens will make all the flight arrangements and deliver the puppy to the airport. We only ship on direct flights in climate-controlled aircraft. Puppies travel with an International Health Certificate.

What is the puppy selection process?

Puppy behaviours and personalities do not really emerge until around 7 weeks. Puppies will not be matched to families until approximately 7.5 weeks of age, so it doesn't matter if you are the first or last reservation on the list. Selection is primarily based on temperament testing, close observation and each family's lifestyle. We breed for temperament, first and foremost. Some people are very specific as to what personality and activity level they desire. This is all taken into consideration prior to selecting a pup that best fits the lifestyle of their forever family.

What do Regalgoldens dogs eat?

My puppies are only placed in forever homes that will feed a raw diet for the life of the dog. Our puppies are weaned on a raw diet at 3 weeks of age. By the time the go to their forever homes they have eaten a raw diet for 5 weeks. All our adult dogs have eaten a raw diet "unprocessed diet" for approximately 8 years.

Kibble was developed in the 1950's as a convienence food. Prior to that dogs ate what the family did. Since kibble was introduced we have seen a rise in cancer and other health related issues.
